Community Vertical Gardens

Bukavu was once known as Green Bukavu, has been expanding in population as people flee war in rural areas. Construction sites abound, and the city is losing its green spaces. Food insecurity remains a problem, and we have begun constructing vertical gardens for decoration as well as food production in a pilot project in Ibanda district. We are launching a school garden project whereby primary school children will learn to use compost to plant and grow vegetables. We are using bamboo locally grown for planters.
