Bukavu has several roads and pedestrian arteries on steep slopes with often muddy or uneven terrain, creating opportunity for insecurity as well as falls with injury. The community has expressed concerns about security at night. WA-Kongo 1st Mile Health has purchased and installed 20 solar-powered street lamps in areas with high pedestrian traffic to benefit the community. This initiative has created a safe passage for pedestrians at night and has also enabled small street-front businesses to remain open in the evenings.
